2014: A Good Year for The Port of Virginia

The Port of Virginia may have had its best year ever in 2014, according to the Virginian-Pilot. The numbers don’t lie, and the Port’s stats display a 7% increase in traffic compared to 2013.

Located right here in Norfolk, you may also have heard it referred to as the Virginia Port Authority. With full authorization for future marine terminal expansion, the Port of Virginia is one of the busiest on the East Coast.

This success came despite setbacks caused by former Governor Bob McDonnell’s efforts to privatize operations at state-owned terminals in Norfolk, Newport News and Portsmouth. After that pressure faded away, the Port Authority’s Chief Executive John Reinhart has managed to resurrect the Port (and seems to have given it a shot of espresso, for good measure).

Politics aside, the Port of Virginia is doing well, and hoping to continue their fantastic business streak. Many of our clients here at Montagna Klein Camden work in the maritime industry, and we offer our congratulations on all their hard work and success.

Remember though, if you or someone you know is injured while working (whether on a ship, dock, barge or port terminal) you can always call the experienced maritime lawyers at Montagna Klein Camden.
